Message They are lowballing you. They are trained to do that -- lowball you.

The sooner you settle, the better for them. The reason why I ask where your car is, is if your car is in a lot or place of business or anyone else's place other than yours, the insurance pays the storage fee. If there is a fee that keeps racking up, they will want to settle sooner so the storage fee is lower. If you take their first offer, you've done them a favor.

Even if your car wasn't in a place that charges a fee, you don't have to take their first offer. The bottom line is, they can't close the file until you accept their offer. Their job is pay as little as possible, not what the car is worth. Your job is to get as much out of the car as possible. Tell them it's your only vehicle; it's a performance vehicle, it's a collector's vehicle, it's an ENTHUSIAST's vehicle. Tell them how much it means to you. Let them know you aren't going to take a low number. Don't worry -- they're not going out of business by paying you what you think the car is worth. Whatever money they lose, they will go after the guy who hit your car. That's what they do.

In the future and for the rest of us, if your car is ever in an accident and it's not driveable and it's not your fault, have it towed to a shop or a yard. The other guy's insurance will act quicker and work on your terms.
